Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk: Bernie
I forgot to tell you on my Day 1 post that I met an amazing person...his name is Bernie. I met Bernie with only a mile left to the bus when he made the comment that we were almost done! I noticed that Bernie was walking alone so I asked if he was walking with a team and he told me "no, I am walking alone". I asked if he was from Atlanta and found out that he was actually an out-of-towner...he is from Boston! After we talked about him being from Boston I asked why he walked. He walks in Memory of his wife, Mary. Mary battled breast cancer for many years and eventually lost her battle. Since she has passed away Bernie has walked in 5 3-Day's all in different cities. After the Atlanta 3-Day he has walked a total of 300 miles for his one true love. He was sporting the pink like a real man and told his story with so much joy. Bernie is a true example of what the 3-Day is all about. I feel so blessed to have met Bernie on this journey. His smile was contagious, his story was inspiring and his positive attitude was uplifting. God placed Bernie in my path for a reason! Each day I ran into Bernie at least once... on Day 2 I saw Bernie dancing on stage at the dance party and then later ran into him that night. On Day 3 I saw Bernie as I walked into closing ceremony. I got it all on video and wasn't planning on it but I am SO glad that I did. Here are a couple videos to enjoy....
